Blanca Ruiz Guerenabarrena – PhD Candidate in Physical Therapy at NYU

Blanca is a dedicated physical therapist with a master’s degree in Nutrition. With seven years of experience in the ICU, she developed a deep understanding of the physiology and management of chronic pain and the long-term challenges faced by critically ill patients. Her clinical experience, combined with her training in nutrition, sparked her interest in exploring the complex relationships among pain, inflammation, metabolism, and nutrition, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing chronic pain.

During her time at Hospital Bichat–Claude Bernard in Paris, France, where she worked within the public healthcare system, Blanca also participated in global volunteer missions advocating for equitable healthcare. Committed to advancing health equity, her research focuses on deepening our understanding of the biological connections among nutrition, metabolism, and chronic pain, with the goal of informing more equitable and effective approaches to pain prevention and management, particularly for underserved and marginalized populations.
